PRIME Minister James Marape led a huge
delegation of Pangu Pati ministers, MPs, executives and party stalwarts to Lae recently
for the country's oldest party’s 52nd Anniversary celebrations.
On hand to receive the arriving delegation
at Nadzab Airport were several Morobean MPs who proceeded to Sir Ignatius
Kilage Indoor Stadium which was filled to capacity by students of various
schools in Lae and the general public.
Other cabinet ministers including Police
Minister Bryan Kramer, State Enterprise Minister Sasindran Muthuvel, Commerce
and Industry Minister Wera Mori along with other Ministers and MPs came via bus
to the stadium after the PMs convoy.
Three senior Pangu stalwarts who embraced
the delegation included, Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare ( First Pangu Prime
Minister ), Sir Rabbie Namaliu ( Second Pangu Prime Minister ) and Sir Pita
Lus.
Prime Minister James Marape whilst
acknowledging all those that welcomed the leaders said it is time to share love
amongst others with individual neighbours which will contribute to reducing a
lot of bad practices in the country.
He said such actions will only see that the
people will have respect for each other and will embrace change in communities
and societies across the country.
He further spoke on the changes of resource
laws of the country that will be come into effect in 2025 and assured everyone
that all logging and fisheries sectors amongst others will be processed locally
and sold.
“All 22 provinces in the country will be
now looked as 22 economic centres of PNG and then we will see the potential
each respective province can contribute back to the country and develop it,” he
said.
Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu whilst
welcoming the leaders to Lae city spoke on the importance of developing the city
to reach its full potential as the industrial hub and nerve centre of PNG.
He said if Lae is developed properly the
development and economic aspects will trickle into all other regions of the
country since Morobe is the centre point of trade for PNG.
Former Prime Minister Sir Rabbie Namaliu
spoke on Integrity trust and accountability of leaders along with the transparency
of public office.
He said nothing in this world is free and
everyone must work hard to achieve better results for the country.
Pangu Party was formed in Lae back in 1969
and has since produced three Prime Ministers of the country from Sir Michael
Somare, Sir Rabbie Namaliu and now James Marape.
The party leaders and executives hosted a
dinner at Lae International Hotel later in the evening to embrace the local
business community, foreign dignitaries and senior Morobeans as part of the
birthday celebrations.
