FLEXIBLE Open and Distance
Education (FODE) has introduced Digital Technology as one of its new initiatives
for enhancing communication system to all the 22 Provincial FODE Centres
throughout the country.
This program is the result of a
partnership arrangement between b-Mobile and Consortium of Computing Institute
of PNG (CCI PNG).
The Principal for FODE Anthony
Rayappan during the recent launch highlighted the partnership between b-Mobile
and FODE is a good move as it aimed to improve communication.
In the lead up to the
implementation of the program, the provincial coordinators of FODE were in Port
Moresby recently for a two days’ workshop, where they were taught how to use the
digital network for the smooth flow of information.
The workshop focused on
improving communication using a digital platform between FODE Provincial Offices
and the Port Moresby Headquarters.
The provincial coordinators,
each received, a Vodafone Tablet Grand 6 from b-Mobile as part of the training
package.
Using these tablets, the
coordinators were trained on how to use social media communication platforms
WhatsApp and Gmail as mediums of communication using, the 3G network.
Meanwhile, Shivalinga Prasad,
the General Manager for CCI PNG, who facilitated the workshop, stated that this
initiative will improve the communication system and will address certain
administrative issues within the FODE, especially with the introduction of
voice conferencing using the digital devices.
